Medellín is the second largest city in Colombia. It has over 3 million people and is the capital of the department of Antioquia. The weather in Medellín is considered to be mild, hence it is known as the 'City of everlasting spring'. Average daily temperatures are 22ºC (71ºF) , range from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius (60º-85ºF).

Airports

Medellin has two main airports:

• The international airport (Jose Maria Cordova) (map) is located about 29km from Medellin in Rionegro, a 45 minute car ride down a windy road.
• The local airport (Enrique Olaya Herrera) (map) is located within the city although only small regional flights depart/land from there.

Getting from Jose Maria Cordova airport to the city

• Taxi - You will see blue and white taxis located outside the doors when you exit the airport. Although all taxis in Medellin use taxi-meters, the ride to/from the airport is fixed at $70.000COP (Approximately $28 USD) or a bit more depending on which part of the city your are going to. However, just to be on the safe side, make sure to ask the taxi driver the price before leaving the airport.
• Colectivos (small buses) - These are shared taxis or mini-buses also located just outside when you exit. Colectivos cost $15.000 COP per person from the airport to El Poblado. Note: Colectivos will NOT drop you off directly at your destination. Instead they will drop you in front of San Diego Mall. We suggest taking a taxi from this point to your destination.

Getting around the city

• Uber - It costs the same as a taxi.

• Taxi - The fastest and most convenient way is to take a taxi. These taxis are yellow and legally must charge you based on the reading on the taxi meter, so there is no need to negotiate your fare. We recommend that you get a cab by:

  • Have your hotel call a taxi.
  • Tappsi.
  • Easy Taxi
  • CityTaxi.

• Metro (see the metro map) - Traveling through the city is easy and quick, with the Metro system. It has 2 Metro lines (train) and is connected to 2 Metrocable lines (cable cars). There are integrated bus routes which will drop you at a Metro station. The closest station to the conference venue is the Universidad station on line A, which will drop you at 5 minute walk to the venue.

The best coffeeshops and co-working spaces are located around the Poblado area, these are some you might want to check out:

• Velvet.
• Pergamino.
• Any Juan Valdez.
• Laneros.
• Epicentro.
• Atom House.

Venue

The conference will be held at Complejo Ruta N, Calle 67 Nº 52-20, which is easily accessible by uber, taxi (you can use Easy taxi, Tappsi or CityTaxi), bus and a 5 minute walk away from Universidad Metro station.

El clima en Medellín es templado de ahí su apodo como la 'ciudad de la eterna primavera'. La temperatura diaria promedio es de 22ºC, cambia en el rango de los 15 a los 30 grados Celsius.

Aeropuertos

Medellín tiene dos aeropuertos principales:

• El aeropuerto internacional (Jose Maria Cordova) (mapa) está ubicado a 29km de Medellin, en Rionegro, a 45 minutos por una carretera sinuosa.
• El aeropuerto local (Enrique Olaya Herrera) (mapa) está ubicado dentro de la ciudad aunque solo vuelos regionales aterrizan o despegan desde allí.

Ir del aeropuerto Jose María Cordova a al ciudad

• Taxis - Afuera de la salida del aeropuerto verás taxis blancos con azul. Aunque los taxis en Medellín usan taximetro, la tarifa desde el aeropuerto es fija y cuesta $70.000COP (aprox. $28 USD) o un poco más dependiendo del lugar de la ciudad al que te dirijas. Sin embargo para estar seguro, acuerda el precio con el conductor antes de tomar el taxi.
• Colectivos (buses pequeños) - Estos son taxis compartidos o mini-buses ubicados justo afuera de la salida del aeropuerto. El precio del colectivos es de $15.000 COP por persona desde el aeropuerto hasta El Poblado. Nota: Los colectivos no te llevarán directamente a tu destino. Te dejarán en frente del centro comercial San Diego. Te sugerimos tomar un taxi desde este punto hasta tu destino.

Moverse en la cuidad

• Uber. Tiene un costo igual a un taxi.

• Taxi - La forma más fácil y cómoda de transportarse es tomando un taxi. Los taxis son amarillos y legalmente deben cobrar basado en el valor indicado por el taximetro al finalizar el recorrido, así que no existe necesidad de negociar la tarifa. Te recomendamos tomar un taxi de las siguientes formas:

  • Pedirle al hotel llamar un taxi.
  • Tappsi.
  • Easy Taxi.
  • CityTaxi.

• Metro (mira el mapa del metro) - Moverse por la ciudad es fácil y rápido usando el sistema Metro. El Metro cuenta con 2 lineas de tren y está conectado a 2 lineas de Metrocable (teleférico). Existen rutas de bus integradas que te llevarán hasta una estación del sistema Metro. La estación más cercana al lugar de la conferencia es la estación Universidad que está ubicada en la linea A, a 5 minutos caminando.

Lugar del evento

La conferencia se realizará en el Complejo Ruta N, Calle 67 Nº 52-20, al cual se puede llegar fácilmente en uber, taxi (puedes usar Easy taxi, Tappsi o CityTaxi), bus o 5 minutos caminando desde la estación Universidad del sistema Metro. Hay varios restaurantes que hacen parte del complejo Ruta N o quedan muy cerca caminando donde podrás almorzar.
